How it all began...
"Just call me Sera." That phrase has been repeated so many times over the years, it's leaked into my "real world" from a world that a majority of society doesn't recognize the existence of, the world of role-play.
I've been role-playing for so many years, I don't even want to count them. It all started when a boyfriend invited me to sit in on this game he and his buddies played. Since he knew I was a (wanna-be) writer, he promised I wouldn't be bored. At first I sat there and watched, thinking, "Why would someone want to play a game where math was so involved? Don't they get enough of that in our classes?"
And then it started....
I watched my boyfriend turn into an honorable Knight, a Paladin. His friends had also transformed into the mix of characters they had created. They were animated. They were speaking with odd accents. They were, in-character.
I sat in amazement, witnessing a whole new and different side to my boyfriend. This was definitely not the same broad-shouldered guy in my metal-shop class. This was a Knight, fully clad in armor. And, through my imagination, I could see him this way clearly as well as every action they described.
When I asked him -why- they felt they -had- to act it out, he said it was all part of the game. Then, of course, he reminded me I do the same thing in my theater class. (Oh sure, be a typical male and turn it back on the female. :p ) He invited me to play, helped me to a create character sheet (something I still struggle with to this day), drop-kicked me into the game and taught me how to enjoy the game of role-play.
